MT 0030 - Mathematics Pre-Algebra Bridge Hours: 0 A weeklong course intended for students who placed into MT 0103 . The Pre-Algebra Bridge is designed to assist in improving placement scores by focusing on test taking skills and targeted remediation in mathematics. Topics include whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, and proportions. MT 0030 utilizes a departmental workbook and a computer learning management system. At the end of weeklong bridge, students will retake the mathematics portion of the placement exam.

MT 0040 - Mathematics Introductory Algebra Hours: 0 A weeklong course intended for students who placed into MT 0204 . The Introductory Algebra Bridge is designed to assist in improving placement scores by focusing on test taking
skills and targeted remediation in mathematics. Topics include solving linear and absolute value equations and inequalities, graphing on the Cartesian Coordinate system, slope and equations of lines, graphing linear inequalities, solving systems of equations with graphing, rules of exponents, and multiplication/division of polynomials. MT*0040 utilizes a departmental woorkbook and a computer learning management system. At the end of weeklong bridge, students will retake the mathematics portion of the placement exam.

MT 0103 - Pre-Algebra Hours: 3 Pre-Algebra is an entry level course for students in preparation for further studies in mathematics. Students will gain a background in arithmetic and algebraic topics by means of various presentation styles. Topics to be covered include: whole number and integer operations, fractions, decimals, percents, solving linear equations, various applicaitons in problem solving and an introduction to algebraic expressions and concepts.This is a developmental mathematics course. Placement in Pre-Algebra is determined by a student’s score on the math placement test and/or his/her mathematical background.

MT 0204 - Introductory Algebra Hours: 4 Introductory Algebra is the first course in a two course algebra sequence designed to prepare students for coursework in college level mathematics. Students will be introduced to basic algebra topics and the application of technology to those topics. The course will begin with a review of pertinent pre-algebra topics including fractions, decimals, and signed numbers. Other topics to be covered at the introductory algebra level include: arithmetic skills, solving equations and inequalities, exponents, linear equations and expressions, and the coordinate plane. Many of these topics will be developed more in subsequent courses. Successful completion with a grade of “C” or higher will satisfy the prerequisite for Intermediate Algebra.

MT 0904 - Fundamental Concepts in Mathematics Hours: 4 A developmental mathematics course designed to prepare students for coursework in college level mathematics alternate to algebra based courses. Students will gain a background in geometry, analysis, and reasoning. Topics to be covered include introductions to statistics, geometry, functions, unit analysis, consumer mathematics, and reasoning mathematically. Application based problems and learning will be infused throughout the course. MT 1083 - Applied Algebra & Trigonometry Hours: 3 Applied algebra and trigonometry is a study of applied topics in algebra such as equations: linear and quadratic, graphs and equation solving combined with a study of topics in geometry and trigonometry such as angles, triangles, and vectors.

MT 1303 - Intermediate Algebra Hours: 3 Intermediate Algebra is the second course in a two-course sequence designed to prepare students for additional coursework in mathematics. Topics covered include: polynomial operations, factoring (including sum and difference of cubes and solving quadratics using factoring), rational expressions and equations, and radical expressions. When successfully completed (grade C or better), the course satisfies the college’s prerequisite for College Mathematics and/or College Algebra or any other college level mathematics course at a similar level.

MT 1311 - Medication Calculations Hours: 1 This course is primarily designed to provide the student enrolled in an Allied Health program with a review of basic mathematics as well as methods of medication dosage calculations using metric, apothecary, and household measures for adult and pediatric medication administration. Intravenous (IV) calculations for simple and complex administration to adult and pediatric patients is introduced. Not intended for transfer.

MT 1505 - Pre-Calculus Math Hours: 5 Pre-calculus Mathematics is designed to meet the needs of the student planning to enroll in mathematics courses numbered 1600 or above. MT 1505 is a unified study of College Algebra and Trigonometry, with particular emphasis given to the preparation of the student for the study of the Calculus. Topics covered include: sets, complex numbers, logs and exponents, polynomials, rational expressions, radicals, solving equations and inequalities, graphing equations and inequalities, and the study of the trigonometric functions. The use of a graphing calculator and its application to the topics of PreCalculus will be discussed.

MT 1605 - Analytic Geometry & Calculus I Hours: 5 A first course in a sequence of courses including analytic geometry, differential calculus, and integral calculus. This series is recommended for majors in engineering, the physical sciences, and mathematics. Topics include: properties of real numbers, introduction to analytic geometry, functions, limits, continuity, the derivative, differentiation of functions, applications of the derivative, antiderivatives, and the definite integral.

MT 2013 - Survey Calculus Hours: 3 Survey Calculus is an introductory study of the techniques of differential and integral calculus. The focus of the course will be on functions and the applications of the calculus to the life, social, and managerial sciences, with particular emphasis on business applications. MDA 1000 - Medial Assistant Externship Prep (MEP) Hours: 0 Medical Assistant students will complete all portions of the Medical Assistant Externship Packet (MEP) including passing a background check (as specified in packet information), a negative result drug screen (as specified in packet information), proof of two negative Tuberculosis tests or 1 chest x-tray, proof of immunity to measles and rubella (2 immunization dates or 1 titre) and check pox (date of disease of 2 immunization dates or 1 titre), proof of a Hepatitis “B” series (may be in progress) and influenza vaccination prior to registering for any MEP course. THis packet is valid for 12 months and will be applied to all Medical Assistant Externships completed within that time frame.

MDA 2134 - Medical Laboratory Procedures Hours: 4 This career technical course credit hour includes collection, processing and transport of blood, urine, cultures; identification of normal ranges; and quality control measures. Students will learn principals of infection control and medical asepsis. Students will knowledge of and demonstrate performance on an EKG. Lab coat is required for this course and will not be provided by the instructor.

MDA 2223 - Program Capstone-Medical Assistant Review Hours: 3 A preparation for the Certified Medical Assisting Exam, including a review of all three components of the CMA exam. MDA 2234 - Medical Assistant Clinical Externship Hours: 4 This is an externship in the Medical Assistant Career Technical Program. Students are placed in a health care setting, which provides practical experience to apply knowledge and skills learned to meet the competencies of the Medical Assistant program. Close and/or direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional (faculty or preceptor) in a clinical setting. Clinical education is an unpaid learning experience in which the student completes 200 hours of work. Students must complete this externship with a 100% on competency requirements.
Prerequisite: MDA 1124 & MDA 2134 . Students must pass all program externship application requirements & have consent of program instructor.

MMD 1713 - Web Animation-Flash Hours: 3 This is a studio course. This course focuses on basic skills in animation using web animation technology. Students will gain knowledge of subjects ranging from story development to final output and compression for web viewing. Students will work with elements of visual physics such as light and shadow, locomotion, and illusionary three-dimensional space. Students will be focusing on animation and audio for the web using Adobe Flash.

Using digital video cameras and non-linear editing tools students will learn the technological, aesthetic, and theoretical basics of creating motion media. MMD 2163 - 3-D Modeling Hours: 3 This is a studio course. Students enrolled in 3-D Modeling will be learning the fundamental aspects of working in a 3-D work space. This includes learning to navigate a 3-D working space, understanding what the basic building blocks of a 3-D object are, and how they can be used to create more complex objects. Students will learn about how a 3-D objects is textured and rendered into a photo in addition to using virtual lights to light the modeled objects.

MMD 2223 - Digital Photography Hours: 3 This is a studio course. This course introduces students to the world of professional photography. Students will learn to use professional photography equipment to take the best possible photographs. Focus will be placed on learning to create a digital workflow for dealing with the large number of photographs that professional photographers process on a daily basis. Emphasis will be placed on having properly configured equipment at the time of the shoot to minimize the time spent in post production. The class will require a significant investment of time outside the class.

MMD 2433 - Digital Video Techician II Hours: 3 This is a studio course. This course will emphasize content and production quality as well as optimization for delivery over the Internet. Integration and animation of 2D graphics, photographs and 3D objects will also be explored. Students will be using Adobe AfterEffects to accomplish high quality digital video and motion graphics projects.

MMD 2692 - Program Capstone-Multimedia Hours: 2 This course is designed to provide students with the skills for seeking employment (to manage their careers effectively). Topics covered include conducting job interviews, job searches, acquisition of web-based skills in dealing with resume and demo reel creation. Resume building and job search skills along with demonstrations of technical and academic proficiency will also be included. Students will then complete a Technical Skills Assessment exit review. This course should be taken in the last or next to last semester to have nearly all program requirements completed.

MU 1082 - Jazz Improvisation Hours: 2 This course will cover selected topics dealing with basic improvisation in the jazz idiom. The class will focus on learning melodies, scales, and arpeggios that are essential to jazz improvisation as well as studying the solos of important jazz musicians. The emphasis will be placed on learning to play over a basic 12 bar blues and easy standard melodies from the jazz repertoire. Students are expected to bring their instruments to every class as we will spend the bulk of class time playing. This course DOES NOT meet the general education requirements and is considered an elective course for music majors.
