Core 42 Offerings

Missouri Transfer Core 42 General Education

Core 42 Matrix

The Missouri Department of Higher Education is making transferring from East Central College to any Missouri public college or university easier by identifying a common set of general education courses known as CORE 42.

CORE 42 is a block of at least 42 credit hours that will transfer as equivalent credit at all public colleges and universities in Missouri. The Core 42 curriculum streamlines the transfer of college credit and reduces the need to retake courses already completed at another institution. More than 2,000 courses are included in the state curriculum.

The framework for Missouri’s CORE 42 is designed for students to obtain the basic competencies of Valuing, Managing Information, Communicating, and Higher-Order Thinking through the completion of at least 42-semester hours distributed across the broad Knowledge Areas of Communications, Humanities & Fine Arts, Natural & Mathematical Sciences, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. Students obtain the competencies through completion of the CORE 42 in its entirety.

Each Knowledge Area requires a minimum number of credit hours with the understanding that a total of 42 hours must be met.  Additional CORE42 classes may be required to reach the 42 hour minimum.

Written Communication- 6 Credit Hours

Oral Communication- 3 Credit Hours

Natural Sciences - 7 Credit Hours Including one Lab Component
