Hours: 2
This course will cover selected topics dealing with basic improvisation in the jazz idiom. The class will focus on learning melodies, scales, and arpeggios that are essential to jazz improvisation as well as studying the solos of important jazz musicians. The emphasis will be placed on learning to play over a basic 12 bar blues and easy standard melodies from the jazz repertoire. Students are expected to bring their instruments to every class as we will spend the bulk of class time playing. This course DOES NOT meet the general education requirements and is considered an elective course for music majors.

Prerequisite: Students must have a basic knowledge of their instruments and be able to play several major scales.
