The Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Engineering Technology program prepares students to function as maintenance technicians and engineering assistants; installing, maintaining and programming advanced manufacturing equipment. Students receive training in machinery, maintenance and repair, basic electrical principles, motor controls, process controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, robotics, computers, basic machinist skills and metallurgy. Students will also learn the problem solving, troubleshooting, teamwork, and self-management skills sought by business and industry.

The Career

Graduates of the IET program typically work in manufacturing as industrail maintenance technicians or as machine builders for companies making manufacturing equipment. These jobs involve installing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial machines.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics median earnings (2024) for the following occupations in Missouri:

Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations $28.22/hourly or $56,440 annual 
Industrial Machinery Mechanics $29.12/hourly or $58,240 annual
Industrial Engineering Technologists and Technicians $37.20/hourly or $74,400 annual

The Program

The Industrial Engineering Technology program is offered at the Business and Industry Center. The program is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

Technicians install, troubleshoot and maintain complex manufacturing and processing equipment. Job titles include maintenance engineer, engineering technician and field service technician.

This program prepares students to function as technical assistants to engineers performing installation, maintenance and modification of advanced manufacturing equipment.

Students receive training in machinery maintenance and repair; basic electrical principles, motor controls and process control systems; hydraulic and pneumatic control systems; programmable controls, robotics and industrial computers; welding and basic machine shop equipment; safety practices; and basic HVAC systems.  Students also learn the problem-solving, teamwork and self-management skills demanded by business and industry today.

Admissions Requirements

Students must have completed:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent (documentation sent to the registration office)
  • Application for admission

Transfer Options

The AAS degree is designed for students seeking employment immediately upon graduation. However, many of the credits, particularly the general education electives received with this degree, may qualify as transfer credit by four-year schools.

Please note that these decisions are made solely by the bachelor degree-granting institution, not East Central College. Students seeking to transfer are advised to contact the institution of their choice before beginning a program or reviewing other degrees and coursework offered through ECC.
