HIM 213 - HIM Profess Practice Experience (PPE)

This course provides students with 90 hours of supervised learning experience with affiliated facilities. This course is designed to give students experience in health information management functions. Of these 90 hours, a minimum of 40 hours must be face-to-face, with the remaining 50 hours virtual or face-to-face. Students must provide proof of paid enrollment or paid the required fee for the PPE packet.* This packet must be complete prior to instructor permission to enroll in this course. The completed PPE packet must show proof of a satisfactory background check, TB test, drug screen, and proof of required immunizations. This packet is valid for 12 months from the date of completion. DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION - NO EXCEPTIONS: To reigster for fall semester PPE course, all PPE requirements must be completed by December 15.

*HIM students will complete all portions of the Professional Practice Experience packet including a passing background check (as specified in packet information), proof of 2 current negative Tuberculosis tests or 1 chest x-ray, proof of immunity to measles and rubella (2 immunization dates or 1 titers), chicken pox (date of disease or 2 immunization dates or 1 titer), proof of a Hepatitis “B” series (may be in progress), proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis vaccine prior to registering for any HIM Professional Practice Experience course. The required influenza vaccination should be taken as soon as it is available. The student must provide evidence of the influenza vaccine when taken. This packet is valid for 12 months and will be applied to all HIM PPE’s completed within that time frame.
