MCM 104 - Introduction to Film Studies Hours: 3 This course provides an introduction to film as a medium and art form. Students study film from the late 19th century to the present by examining the technical, artistic, sociological, historic and economic influences on the filmmaker and the film. Students will also learn theory and criticism techniques used in the field through an examination of production values including imagery, sound editing and other technical elements as well as theme, story, pacing and direction. In-class screenings provide a framework for analysis as well as give the students the opportunity to view the work in context as a communal art form. Class format includes lecture, discussion, writing, and in-class screenings.
