BI 1325 - Principles of Biology I Lecture & Lab Hours: 5 This course is the first of the two-course sequence for Biology majors that introduces the principles and concepts of biology. In lecture, the emphasis is placed on the scientific method, taxomony, basic chemistry, chemistry of organic molecules, cytology, membrane transport, metabolism and thermodynamics, enzyme kinetics, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, cell division, Mendelian genetics and molecular genetics. The laboratory portion of this course will reinforce topics covered in the Principles of Biology I lecture. In lab, the emphasis is placed on scientific method, data collection and reporting, problem solving and critical thinking.
Lecture/Laboratory: Three hours of lecture and four hours of laboratory per week. Gen Ed Skill Type: LPS, HOT, MAI, CCT-CLO Prerequisite: Minimum grade of “C” in CH 1105 or minimum grade of “C” in four semesters of high school Chemistry. Prerequisite/Corequisite: SC 1000
