HIM 2242 - HIM Profess Practice Experience (PPE) Hours: 2 This is a 90 clock hour, hands-on supervised learning experience (PPE) with affiliated facilities designed to give students a clinical experience in assembly, analysis, filing of health records, master patient index, introduction to coding, data entry and abstracting, record storage and retrieval, birth certification, tracking systems, cancer registry, ambulatory, long term care, mental health records, medical staff/hospital committee functions, legal aspects, quality and risk management, utilization review, management and supervision, ICD-10-CM coding and DRG assignment, healthcare statistics, electronic health records, billing and insurance. During this PPE students may have the opportunity to observe supervisory skills applied in a health care setting. Students must provide proof of paid enrollment into or have completed HIM 1000 paid the required fee (for the PPE packet), to the HIM Program Director to receive a PPE Packet.
This packet must be complete prior to instructor permission to enroll in this course. The completed PPE packet must show proof of a satisfactory background check, TB test, drug
screen, and proof of required immunizations. This packet is valid for 12 months from the date
of completion.
