PH 1033 - Physics of Sound

Hours: 3
The course will be an introduction to acoustics, and the role that physics plays in determining what we hear.  The physical principles involved in the description, generation, and reproduction of sound will be examined.  Topics include: physics of vibrations and waves, propagation of sound waves, standing waves and resonance, harmonic series, and sound intensity and loudness, room acoustics, musical intervals and scales, and characteristics of different instruments.

Prerequisite: MT 1303 , minimum grade C or appropriate placement into MT 1403
